ハーディ・ガーディはヨーロッパの古楽器です。バイオリンに似た弦楽器ですが、弓で弦を擦るのではなく、ハンドルでホイールを回転させて弦を擦り、旋律は鍵盤によって演奏します。またハーディ・ガーディには、旋律弦のほかに複数のドローン弦があります。ドローン弦は一定のピッチでメロディーを伴奏し、バグパイプに似た音を生み出します。

M5Gurdyは、M5StackとMIDIシンセサイザユニットでハーディ・ガーディを再現した電子楽器です。本物のハーディ・ガーディと同様にハンドルと鍵盤で演奏し、2本の旋律弦と4本のドローン弦をシミュレートしますが、音色はさまざまに変えることができます。
The hurdy-gurdy is an European folk instrument. It is a stringed instrument similar to a violin. Instead of a violin bow, the hand-crank-turned wheel rubs the strings. Melodies are played on a keyboard. In addition to the melody strings, the hurdy-gurdy also has several drone strings that give a constant pitch accompaniment to the melody, resulting in a sound similar to that of bagpipes
The M5Gurdy is an electronic instrument that reproduces the hurdy-gurdy using the M5Stack and the MIDI synthesizer unit. It is played with a crank and keyboard like a real hurdy-gurdy, and simulates two melody strings and four drone strings. It can also play various timbles.
