アイデアの着想の背景

このデバイスはオンライン会議中ののちょっとした不都合から生まれました．イヤホンをしながらオンライン会議に参加していると後ろから話しかけてくる人に気付けず，困ったことがあります．一方で話しかけられたくない重要な会議なのにわざわざ話しかけて来る人もいます．そこで頭の後ろに人が来たことがわかるセンサーと意思表示ができるディスプレイをつけようというアイデアを思いつきました．このデバイスの名前はEye-both（アイボス）といいます．名前は頭の後ろの目を意味する"Eyes on the back of the head"を短くしたものです．

プロトタイプの構成

このプロトタイプの基本動作は以下の通りです．

1. 後ろから近づいて来た人を検知
2. 振動で装着者に教える
3. 用事がある人にもフィードバック
4. 会議を抜けられないときはボタンを押すと意思表示できる

これを実現するためにとてもシンプルなプロトタイプを作りました．構成はM5stickCplus, Viblator hat，ジェスチャーセンサーの3つです．これを3Dプリンタで作ったヘッドバンドに取り付けました．

将来の展望

このデバイスはただの便利グッズを目指して作られたものではありません．来たるメタバースの世の中で耳も目もバーチャルに入り込んだ人たちがリアルにいる人とコミュニケーションするための新しいインターフェースであり，2つの世界をつなぐトリガーなのです．このような機能が未来のウェアラブルデバイスに搭載されて，リアルとバーチャルがもっと自由に行き来できると楽しいだろうと思います．

English Explanation

This device helps communicate with surrounding people when attending online meetings. When joining a meeting, sometimes we can't notice that real person close to us and they want to talk to us. On the other hand, there are people who talk to us although we are joining important meetings and we can't reply to them.

We solve this problem with the wearable device named "Eye-both". This device detects the gesture of the hand of a backside person, then notes to a wearing person by vibration to the head, and finally, it shows a message on the display of M5stickCplus. Additionally, it can show another message which indicates we can't replay your talk by pressing the button when we joined to an important meeting.

This device is not designed to be a mere convenience item. It is a new interface for people who have entered the virtual world with their ears and eyes to communicate with people in the real world in the coming metaverse, and a trigger to connect the two worlds. I think it will be fun if wearable devices of the future are equipped with this kind of functionality, allowing people to move more freely between the real and virtual worlds.
